Food Budget 9.16

Totally overspent this week.  In our defense we kind of stocked up on some sale items.  But we also shopped too many times and just overspent.  Here is what we bought:

PRODUCE:

  • Avocado $2.50
  • Bananas $3.00
  • Bell Peppers $3.76
  • Raspberries $4.50
  • Broccoli $2.93
  • Carrots $2.30
  • Celery $.88
  • Corn $3.00
  • Hot peppers $5.74
  • Baby kale $3.49
  • Nectarines $6.00
  • Onions $5.73 – this includes a 10# bag from the Farmer’s Market
  • Potatoes $.73
  • Squash $2.00
  • Tomatoes $4.00
  • Watermelon $3.00

DAIRY:

  • Butter $7.99
  • Mozzarella $6.59
  • Cottage Cheese $4.99
  • Cream cheese $1.99
  • Ice cream $6.00
  • Milk $2.79
  • Sour cream $2.29
  • Yogurt $4.99

MEAT

  • Bacon $16.99
  • Pork ribs and shoulder $28.87

GROCERY

  • Beans $19.99 – this was a 20# bag
  • Chocolate bars $4.00
  • Coffee $11.69
  • Wheat berries $29.98 – this was 100 pounds so a great price!
  • Pork jerky $12.49
  • Macaroni and cheese $5.58
  • Popcorn $1.99
  • Tortillas $5.98

So the grand total is $232.80.  Yikes!  We did not do good at all 😆

The plan for this coming week is to buy as minimally as possible, meaning just produce unless we really need something.  I’ve already been to the store to get eggs, peanut butter, guacamole, and lettuce, and it was $23.  I would LOVE it if I could keep the spending under like $60?  I think that is a reasonable goal.  I’m going to pull some meats from the freezer, pick some pantry items to use up, and make sure I write lists for anything we are going to buy.  Another thing to keep in mind is that we will be leaving in just over 2 weeks for 1 1/2 weeks vacation.  We agree that the fridge should be pretty much bare before we go.  I’m going to do my best!!
