Quick FOs, New Yarn, and WIPs

Since I hardly post anymore I may as well squeeze as much as I can into one right?  And I apologize if I usually visit your blog and I haven't been in a while.  I swear I will be better!I'm so overtaken by all of the stuff going on in the horse race known as the Pres. election so I haven't been thinking about much else.  I voted already, but I'm on pins and needles to know what is going to happen!  Anyway, one little political plug and them I'm zipping it on that topic.  My newest must-read-several-times-a-day is fivethirtyeight.com.  The guys that run it write so incredibly well, and besides all of the numbers stuff there are plenty of inspirational and touching posts to read.  This is probably old news but if you haven't heard of it, go check it out!  If you type in the page, don't type the wrong thing because apparently it is pretty close to some porno site, heads up!!  And the comments get quite spirited, I enjoy them but some may not.  So fair warning.

I whipIMG_1962IMG_1963
ped out a couple of things for a niece and nephew, hopefully the moms don't mind seeing them before they actually get them!  My sister-in-law said she needed a pair of mittens for my nephew and they took about 1 1/2 hours.  Gotta love that!  It is just a basic pattern without thumbs, using double stranded sock yarn.  I think they are cute 🙂

My sister requested a hat for Bobita's favorite cousin that is her age ;)  So I also whipped one out yesterday.  I just hope it fits!  I hope I can get it mailed down there so that it gets there close to her birthday – I hope?!  Anyway.  It is also just a made-up pattern with earflaps and i-cord ties and a mediocre pom-pom.  Good thing kids aren't too picky.  Well most of the time.

I finished making some new yarn.  I'm calling it Grinch.  It is a 2-ply superwash, self-dyed, about 200 yards or so.  It'll make a cute hat or something for some little one.

I started on something else too, Versatility from Knitty.  I picked up some IMG_1964
Araucania Chunky at Unravelled Sheep over the weekend and I think so far it is turning out great.  I'm doing slightly smaller bobbles than the pattern says to.  I just couldn't handle the big big ones.  It should still be pretty cute, and save on the yarn!

I'm still working on the Dimorphous Mittens, I have one inner mitten done and then a good start on the cuff of the second.  I figure the outer shells won't take too long so they should be done just in time for when it gets really chilly around here.

That's all folks 🙂

  1. I’m about halfway through my first Dimorphous inner mitten, and I’m wondering how I’m going to resist the urge to do the outer mitten for It would be much more practical to have both inner mittens done first!
